And the winners of the ECHO Jazz 2015 are ...
Best Instrumentalist / international Saxophon/Woodwinds
for “In My Solitude: Live in Concert at Grace Cathedral”: Branford Marsalis
Best Instrumentalist / international Drums/Percussion
for “Time's Tales”: Jeff Ballard
Jeff Ballard states: „I am deeply honoured and thankful to receive this very prestigious award from ECHO Jazz. It means a lot to me to be recognized for the work done on 'Time's Tales', my first record. And now here is my first award. An amazing feeling. Of course, I could never have made this music without the participation of Lionel Loueke and Miguel Zenon whom, as ever, I want to thank from the bottom of my heart. This music we play is greater than we each are as individuals, it's one of the greatest aspects in playing with others. It’s a blessing. My sincerest thanks to the judges and to all those involved in the ECHO Jazz awards, and to the Family we all are in music.“
The awards ceremony will be in Hamburg, Germany at the Elbjazz Festival on May 28th in the Blohm + Voss shipyard hall and will be moderated by Gregory Porter and Roger Cicero. Visit echojazz.de for more details.
The ECHO Jazz awards are conferred by the Deutsche Phono-Akademie, a German cultural institution associated with the National Music Industry Association. The organization has handed out the ECHO Music awards, the German equivalent to the American Grammy Awards, annually since 1992 and the ECHO Classic awards since 1994. The ECHO Jazz prizes are the latest addition, having launched in 2010.
